DETAILS

Are you a Muslim reproductive justice practitioner (doula, birthworker, policy expert, advocate, parent, and more) in the DMV area? Are you a Muslim interested in feminist approaches to organizing, abolition, and community care? Are you someone interested in reproductive justice and faith? Join HEART for a day long symposium on Muslim-led approaches to reproductive justice. In 2025, HEART launched our first ever Reproductive Justice Fellowship. This year’s fellowship cohort consists of 10 individuals between the ages of 20 and 30, all of whom ran their own reproductive justice projects in their chosen community. With projects ranging from sexual & reproductive health for Queer Muslims, to community and personal RJ archives, to Islam-informed birthwork and abolition resources, and more, these fellows have explored different parts of what it means to envision reproductive justice as Muslims. Join us for an interdisciplinary symposium with RJ practitioners, community activists, artists, and scholars on Muslim visions for reproductive justice. The symposium will include panels, individual speakers, and poster presentations on the state of reproductive justice & Islam. Join us on February 7th from 10:00-3:30 pm at American University. Thank you to our co-sponsors: AU Department of Peace, Human Rights, and Cultural Relations and Arab World Studies Program *** HEART is a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing reproductive justice and uprooting gendered violence for the most impacted Muslims. Since 2010, HEART has been leaders in the field through our main arms of health education, advocacy (both individual and systems level), research, and training If you have any questions, message Kiran at kiran@heartwomenandgirls.org
